PHIL Neal had only been in charge for three days when he led Wanderers to a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in December 1985.

David Cross scored both goals on the day to give the new player-boss a winning start in front of 4,546 fans.

Cross has three goals against Doncaster, and shares top-scorer status with Walter White – not he of Breaking Bad fame but rather a prolific striker from the turn of the century.

Before Saturday, Wanderers’ last competitive meeting with the South Yorkshire club was in the FA Cup third round in January 2007.

Adranik Teymourian scored twice, Kevin Davies and Idan Tal once each in a 4-0 win at the club’s new Keepmoat Stadium.
