IT was not just the major high street stores which cashed in this Christmas - a group of teenagers made a packet by selling their wares too.

Young Enterprise company Sloganized enjoyed a surge of last minute orders for personalised t-shirts and mugs which they sold as gifts.

Managing director Ashleigh Ainsworth, aged 14, said: "It has been really busy recently and it seems to have been really popular to give more personal gifts this year. Our shareholders will be pleased."

The business has only been running since October after being set up by eight, year ten and 11 pupils at Westhoughton High School.

But it has been so successful that the company is looking to expand the range of products it personalises and increase its customer base outside of school.

The team is also planning on giving half of the profits it has made over the festive period to the Dogs for the Blind Charity.

The school is participating in a national Young Enterprise Scheme, which encourages children to set up their own businesses.

Sloganized members attended a workshop at Manchester University's Business School to find out more about the world of trade.

After taking orders, the team spends time at Bolton Technical Innovation making them up.

The business is completely pupil-led while teachers Mark Inman and Claire Locke are available to support the young people in their venture.

The pupils wanted to improve their CV and learn skills for their business studies GCSE.

Jessica Murphy, financial director, said: "We had to raise the money to set up the business, and that meant selling cakes during breaks and after school as well as selling shares."
