Firefighters from Horwich were on the scene and the 20-year-old male driver of the Yaris had to be cut free from his car, which had been crushed in the incident.
He was put on a spinal board and taken to hospital by amubulance with suspected neck injuries and bleeding from his face, head and legs.
It is thought he was not wearing his seat-belt at the time.
