Workers at a Bolton company put their best foot forward for The Bolton News Garden of Tranquility appeal.

Staff from L Batley Pet Products took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and raised a massive £5,773, which has been divided between our appeal and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Sarah Fowler, Becky Evans, Scott and Grace Grieve, David Clarkson, Paul Walker, Anne and John Caughey, Ian Dyson, Shelley and Iain Haslock and Gwyn the dog all took part in the gruelling 26-mile trek, across Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

They completed it in less than 12 hours.

Organiser and buyer at L Batley Pet Products on Breightmet Industrial Estate, Sarah Fowler, said: "We wanted to make sure we donated the money to a local cause."

The team handed over £2,886 to the Garden of Tranquillity appeal which was launched to raise £100,000 to transform the run down grounds at Bolton Hospice, which have not been renovated since the facility opened 14 years ago.

Under new plans, pathways will be built, providing disabled access, and there will be private seating areas where patients can spend time with friends and family. There will also be the addition of a water feature and a sensory garden.

If you want to donate to the appeal, cheques and postal orders should be made payable to Bolton Hospice and sent to The Bolton News, Newspaper House, Churchgate, Bolton, BL1 1DE, marked for the Garden of Tranquillity appeal.
