WESTHOUGHTON Rotary Club's Christmas float raised a record £4,754.68.
Treasurer John Moutrie had the task of counting the coins, and found there were 19,805 - more than Westhoughton's population of 19,015.
The collection comfortably beat last year's total of £4,117.
Mr Moutrie said: "This averages 25p from every man, woman and child in the borough."
He added that the Saturday float collection in Market Street had also smashed previous records, bringing in £1,124.68 compared to last year's £857.
Rotary president Roy Naylor said: "A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this record total.
"Residents know that every penny collected goes back into the community to help local people, both directly and through organisations and charities."
Mr Naylor thanked Kia at Middlebrook for providing a brand new blue Kia Sportage to tow the Rotary sleigh.
