A BOGUS gas board official tricked his way into an elderly couple's home and stole £200.
The conman knocked on the door in Hackford Close, Halliwell, at about 3.30pm on Friday, claiming to be from the gas board and said he was there to check a leak.
The 87-year-old man who answered was shown identification and allowed him in.
The conman pretended to check the pipes in the kitchen and the lounge radiators before asking the pensioner for £200 to fix the leak.
The man gave him the money but his wife, aged 89, confronted the conman, asking to see his ID again. The thief pushed her out of the way and fled.
Anyone with information about incident is asked to contact police on 0161 856 0963 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
