A DRIVER who was travelling at more than double the speed limit to see his pregnant wife has been fined £500.
Mubarak Patel, aged 29, was doing 75mph on Manchester Road, Bolton, on September 9 2006.
Police officers pulled him over in the 30mph zone and he told them his wife was in hospital.
He told Bolton Magistrates Court yesterday: "My wife was five months pregnant and she was rushed to hospital. They thought she was losing the baby and I was trying to get there as quickly as I could, although I know it was wrong."
Patel was fined £500 and given five penalty points on his licence, taking his total to 11 points.
