POLICE are appealing for help from the public after a man tried to snatch a handbag from a woman.

The incident happened at around 5.45pm in Atherton on Thursday, December 14, when a 54-year-old woman was walking along Fletcher Avenue and then a path that runs parallel to the railway line.

As she walked passed Hatton Avenue she was pushed in the back and a man grabbed her handbag.

During the struggle the woman fell into a fence and the offender lost his grip on the bag and rode off on a mountain bike towards Spa Road.

A police spokesman said: "The woman was left extremely shaken by the incident suffering from shock and nausea."

The man is described as 5ft 4in to 5ft 6in tall of a slim to medium build. He was wearing a dark coloured peaked hat and dark coloured jacket with white stripes down the arms.
