A BUTCHERS has appeared in court for flytipping waste products into bins belonging to other local businesses.
Bennett's Meats, of Princess Parade, Bury, was found to have thrown remnants of chicken and red meat waste in a bin belonging to another meat and poultry business who leave their bin near the "compactor" on the grounds of Bury Market.
Martyn Neal Bennett, aged 56, who is company director and secretary, faced five waste management-related charges, including two of flytipping.
He pleaded guilty to two offences between November 18, 2005, and February 1, 2006, of depositing waste meat on land not licensed to receive waste under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. He was fined £200 for each offence.
He also pleaded guilty to one offence of failing to comply with the Duty of Care by failing to ensure that waste was transferred to an authorised person or a person authorised for transfer purposes. He was fined £100 for this offence.
The other two offences were withdrawn by the local authority.
He was ordered to pay £653.48 towards prosecution and investigations costs. The total fine was £1153.48.
