THE 196ft high big wheel in Manchester has won a two-week reprieve.

It was supposed to close on Sunday to allow Manchester City Council to refurbish paved areas of the square.

But discussions on moving it from Exchange Square to another site are continuing, meaning the wheel can remain for another fortnight.

The council is keen to keep the wheel in Manchester as it has been so well received since a similar one first arrived in 2004. The wheel, similar to the London Eye, offers views for miles with each capsule providing commentary on the surrounding landscape.
