A RAIDER whose attempt to rob a chip shop was foiled when the owners fought him off with hot mushy peas and boiling water has been told he faces jail.
Kieran Naylor, aged 21, of Monks Lane, Breightmet, pleaded guilty at Bolton Crown Court to assault with intent to rob the chippy in nearby New Lane on September 22.
Naylor jumped over the counter and repeatedly hit the owner, whose wife then threw a pan of mushy peas at the robber.
The owner, known locally as George, then picked up a pan of hot water and threw it over Naylor, who fled.
Naylor also admitted breaching the terms of his anti social behaviour order.
Judge William Morris said: "It is a case of such seriousness that it's inevitable it will be a custodial sentence."
He adjourned the hearing until February 16 for further reports.
