FOUR men from the Sudan were found hidden in a refrigerated fruit lorry which arrived at a Bury warehouse .
Staff at Hallows Fruiterers, on Woolfold Trading Estate, found the men when they opened the lorry at around noon.
They were hiding in a small space on top of boxes containing iceberg lettuces which had been delivered from Murcia, Spain.
The four men, who were all in their 20s and spoke little or no English, may have been there since the vehicle left the continent three days earlier.
They were all wearing winter coats, hats, scarves and other warm clothing to cope with temperatures as low as four degrees celsius inside the refrigerated lorry.
Steve Bibby, manager of Hallows, said: "When we opened the lorry, we saw some men on top of the boxes.
"We closed the doors and called the police straight away.
"We have two deliveries from Spain each week and this has never happened before."
Police arrested the four men and the Spanish lorry driver at the scene.
