I WAS writing letters to The Bolton News back in 2003 asking the council to provide a town centre skateboard park for the young people of Bolton.

I was pleased, therefore, to read the letter from Cllr John Byrne, who tells us that the council is seriously considering plans for a skateboard park.

Cllr Byrne, who I know is serious in his concern for the young people of our town, should talk to Jerry Glover from the Lads & Girls Club, who says the ideal place for the park would be on a piece of land in Queen's Park, at the rear of the club.

This, of course, would be perfect, and Jerry has also offered to manage the park, but without interfering with the skateboarders' independence.

The council should jump in with both feet. It is an ideal site, and a very generous offer from Jerry Glover.

Incidentally, my wife and I, along with other members of the North Breightmet Local Community Panel, had the privilege of being shown round the excellent Lads & Girls Club recently. We were greatly impressed.

The lads and girls of Bolton have a club that is second to none, packed with excellent facilities and staffed by a team of whom we should all be proud.
