ANDY Nelson is back at Leigh RMI just four months after quitting as manager.

Nelson took charge at the start of last season along with current boss Stuart Humphreys, but stepped down after just two games of the current season with health problems.

Nelson has now recovered and Humphreys had no hesitation in inviting his friend back to the club to support him.

"Andy is my latest signing and I am delighted to welcome him back, " said Humphreys. "I have missed him as we have been together for a number of years."

Humphreys was quick to stress that Nelson's return would not affect Andy Roscoe's position as assistant manager.

He said: "Roscoe is top drawer. I get on well with him and things are not going to change. He has done a superb job and Andy Nelson's return will not undermine his position. He is returning to support me. What people don't realise is that we were joint managers before, but he was the front man."

Humphreys' transformation of RMI has been rewarded by him being named the Conference North manager of the month for December.

He added: "I have never won anything like this before and it is the first time the club have got it, but it is down to everybody else at Leigh."

Unsworth is latest signing for the Latics Wigan manager Paul Jewell has completed his third signing of the transfer window with the capture of defender David Unsworth from Sheffield United.

Unsworth has completed a free transfer from the Blades where he has spent the last 18 months.

Unsworth joins fellow new boys in Sweden Under-21 international Andreas Granqvist and Norway international Kristofer Haestad at the JJB Stadium. Both are on loan until the end of the season from Helsingborg and IK Start respectively.

Jewell said: "David is a highly experienced player, who has been there and done it as a player. He will add defensive cover right across the back four.

"He's a canny sort of player, he has great knowledge of the game at this level and most importantly, it's another body in there, who I know will give 100 per cent every time he puts on the shirt.

"He's the kind of lad you want on your side, a really committed battler."

Unsworth added: "I'm delighted to sign for Paul Jewell and Wigan. They are a big club with great ambition and I hope to be able to play some part in their story."
