BOLTON mums and daughters are being urged to sign up to Bolton’s Race for Life ahead of Mothering Sunday.

Entry is now open for Cancer Research UK’s huge event on Sunday, July 6, in Leverhulme Park — which last year saw 1,700 women put on their running shoes to raise cash to beat cancer.

Carrie Murphy, Race for Life event manager in the North West, said: “We are urging women in Bolton to give their mums the gift of time this Mother’s Day, by signing up to Race for Life together. The feel-good factor that comes from being part of the formidable army of women ready to show cancer who’s boss will last far longer than the more traditional Mother’s Day gifts of chocolates and flowers.

“Race for Life events are not competitive. They are not about being fit or fast. Some women might worry about standing alongside runners decked out in lycra but nothing could be further from the truth. The reality on the day is that participants of all shapes, sizes and ages generate an electric energy as they unite in their determination to defeat cancer.”

This year organisers are hoping to smash last year’s £82,000 raised with a target of £105,000 and are calling for 1,800 women to take on the 5k distance.

Ms Murphy added: “Mother’s Day is the special occasion when we acknowledge that universal truth – it’s mums who make the world go round”
