A SEX offender who has repeatedly served jail sentences for failing to notify police of his address, has been given a chance to change his behaviour by a court.

Denise Fitzpatrick, prosecuting, told Bolton Crown Court how, in March 2011, Anthony Brown was convicted of possessing indecent photographs of children and placed on the sex offender’s register, which obliged him to keep police informed of his whereabouts.

But he has since had several spells in jail for breaching the order.

On January 20 this year he failed again to tell police his whereabouts and when officers phoned him three days later he refused to reveal where he was.

Miss Fitzpatrick said: “He said he might hand himself in that evening with a view to getting himself sent to prison for food and accommodation.”

He was arrested when he turned up at the police station and subsequently pleaded guilty to failing to notify that he was of no fixed address.

Martin Prizzey, defending, said Brown had a drink problem and there had been difficulties finding him a bail hostel, although a place was now available in Eccles.

Recorder Simon Killeen adjourned sentencing until April 25 on condition he lives at the hostel, is subject to their 9pm to 8am curfew and abides by their zero alcohol policy.

He said: ”Somebody, at some stage, has got to give you an opportunity to stop this cycle and give you a chance.”
