ZAT Knight bailed Wanderers out at Yeovil but admits his future at the Reebok is looking uncertain.

The big defender scored his second goal in three games to bring Dougie Freedman’s side level, after they had trailed 2-0 at the half-time break at Huish Park.

Despite a distinct upturn in his own form at the tail end of the campaign, Knight believes it is unlikely the club will offer him a chance to extend his five-year stay, for the time being.

And while he confirmed he would like to stay at Bolton next season, the 33-year-old club captain is content to stay patient while Wanderers are so close to the relegation zone.

“I’m just happy to be playing and, to be honest, I’d rather have kept a clean sheet than have scored a goal,” he said of the 82nd-minute header that salvaged a point.

“I’ve enjoyed five seasons here and one of my main objectives in staying here in the first place was to get the club back into the Premier League, back to the club I started at. It hasn’t been possible in the last two years, so now I can only wait and see what happens at the end of the season.

“I’ll be honest, I don’t think we’re in a position to talk about things at the moment.

“Our main objective is to finish as high as possible in the league. The manager, the chairman and whoever else can talk to whatever players they like, and go from there.”

Knight held his hands up after the game and conceded that his equalising header had not been meant as an attempt at goal.

But the defender thinks it was the least the Whites deserved for a much-improved second-half performance, completed with 10 men after Alex Baptiste’s dismissal and aided by a missed penalty from Ishmael Miller.

“It was a flick on but when I turned round the goalkeeper was in no man’s land, so I was relieved to see it trickle over the line,” he said.

“I thought in the first 25 minutes of the game we were the better team.

“The first goal was sloppy. The ball was swung in and it came off the lad’s calf and ended up in the back of the net. The next goal really winded us.

“But we came out for the second half and played some decent football. We did what the manager told us and got back level.”
