DR Who fans will not need a Tardis to get to a Convention in March - they will only have to trek a few miles to Darwen.

The event will be held at Darwen Cricket Club and will be attended by several well known Dr Who stars, including Sophie Aldred, who played the Doctor's teenage assistant Ace in the late 80s, and Lisa Bowerman, who was Karra from the Cheetah people.

It will be the third Dr Who Convention and it will raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The day on Saturday, March 10, will include activities and entertainment from juggling and stilt walking to fire eating, as well as a charity auction with many Doctor Who prizes up for grabs.

Former Doctor Who star Colin Baker said: Last year's Doctor Who Day Convention was one of the best-run events I have ever attended."

Graham Groom, from The Doctor Who Autograph Collectors Club, which is organising the event, said: "One in three people are affected by cancer and so this year we wanted to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, a very worthy cause."

Tickets cost £18 for adults, £15 for concessions (children, senior citizens, students) and can be obtained from DWACC, 23 Meadow Street, Darwen, Lancashire, BB3 2QL, with cheques payable to Graham Groom.
