WANDERERS Under 18s went out of the FA Youth Cup at Sunderland last night after suffering a triple blow in a tie-breaking end to the first half.
The young Whites, who were playing for a place in the fifth round, were all square at the Stadium of Light until Matthew Cassidy was sent off in the 42nd minute for a foul on Black Cats striker David Dowson. Jack Colback scored from the resulting spot kick and Sunderland doubled their lead in first half stoppage time when Jordan Henderson scored with a sensational 20-yard volley.
The Bolton 10 put in a spirited second half performance but their reward - a Robert Sissons header in the 90th minute - was too little too late to take the fourth round tie to a replay.
Wanderers coach, Peter Farrell, said: "I thought we were the better side in the second half but, in the end, it was a disappointing result."
