WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)
ANDY LONERGAN 7
Solid return to the side. Came to collect crosses and made a couple of useful stops in the first half.
OSCAR THRELKELD 7
Another performance belying his tender years. One crucial block in the first half and a cross-shot that nearly caught out Randolph.
MATT MILLS 6
Little wasteful in possession at times but defensively sound. Must have felt like the Alamo towards the end.
DAVID WHEATER 7
The new dad was the probably the pick of the bunch at the back, even though he was beaten by Zigic for the first goal.
TIM REAM 5
Couple of uncharacteristic errors early on and didn’t get completely on top against substitute Ibe.
JAY SPEARING 7
Didn’t do a lot wrong with the ball and tried to drive his side on but looked frustrated with the lack of help around him.
LIAM TROTTER 5
Just didn’t get into the game that much, even after pushing forward. Still has to convince his doubters.
CHUNG-YONG LEE 7
Wanderers’ biggest attacking threat until the introduction of Jutkiewicz and Kellett – but should have scored twice.
NEIL DANNS 4
Not on his game at all. Couldn’t seem to keep hold of the ball and wasted two very good chances to win the game.
ROB HALL 4
Like Danns, couldn’t keep possession. Two free-kicks were all he had to show for his afternoon’s work.
JERMAINE BECKFORD 5
Couple of nice touches but a lot of hands-on-hips frustration. Never really got behind a static Birmingham back line.
Subs: Jutkiewicz 61 (for Hall) – A menace when he came on 7
Knight 81 (for Chung-Yong) – Swansong for the big defender 5
Kellett 86 (for Beckford) – Injected some much-needed pace 6
Not used: Lee-Barrett, Robinson, Youngs, Iliev.
STAR MAN – Jay Spearing No player stood head and shoulders above the rest in a Wanderers shirt but at least the captain looked like he wanted to finish with a bang.
Spearing buzzed around the middle of the park and tried to snap his side out of their malaise.
