THERE has been much talk about developing a cultural quarter in Bolton, and it is vital that its existing components - the library, museum, art gallery and Octagon Theatre - remain as its core.
New plans talk about the possibility of a central library to be shared with the university, and a research centre for textiles students. It is possible this may be in a new building or within the existing library in Le Mans Crescent. The latter would be a preferable option.
If a new arts centre, alongside cafes and bars, is built in this splendid area, it is vital the library building remains there. If everything stays within strolling distance - and many would see a library between Moor Lane and Trinity Street as outside the centre - Bolton's cultural quarter could match those of major cities.
