HEALTHCARE IT company Ascribe has a strong order book after a record half year.

In a trading update, chief executive Stephen Critchlow said that the company, based on Branker Street, Westhoughton, took orders for more than £3 million in December alone.

The company's pharmacy division has won new contracts with Addenbrookes Hospital, Mid-Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Hereford Hospital NHS Trust, Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust; and Airedale Hospital.

There have also been contract wins with Guy's and St Thomas' hospitals, in London.

Mr Critchlow said that Ascribe was benefiting from a shift towards local purchasing of IT in the UK and growth in overseas orders.

He said: "We are now able to demonstrate our ability to be a dominant player. This has been our best half-year so far for new orders.

"In December alone, we took orders for over £3.3 million.

"I am pleased to report that our order book is strong, and the board expects to deliver another good result for the year."

The interim results for the period to December 31, 2006 are expected to be announced on March 21.
