PUB landlords will take to the football pitch to raise £10,000 for charity.

Teams from 50 JD Wetherspoons pubs across the region will take part in a five-a-side tournament in aid of Bolton-based eco charity, Two Men Plant a Forest.

Richard Greenwood, of Bradshawgate, Bolton, and Simon Harrington, who owns The Bar in Nelson Square, set up the charity to raise £50,000 for a tree-planting mission to the Ecuadorian rainforest in October.

Staff from The Spinning Mule, in Nelson Square, will form a team with colleagues at The Robert Shaw, in Market Street, Westhoughton.

The tournament takes place at the JJB Soccerdome, in Trafford Park, tomorrow. Wanderers star Ricardo Vaz Te will present the winning team with a trophy.

Each team has paid £200 to enter.

Mr Greenwood, aged 31, said: "It's a fantastic amount of money - I'm thrilled that the chain is backing our cause."
