A KITCHEN was badly damaged after a pan of food was left unattended on the hob.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze in a second floor flat in Water Street, Atherton, on Friday afternoon.
The resident, a 59-year-old man, was not in at the time as he had gone to buy food.
Firefighters had to ventilate the building to clear smoke.
