THE Mayoress of Horwich has raised more than £550 for five local charities at a ladies’ evening.
More than 100 women turned up at the event organised by Alison Brookes at the Horwich RMI Club in Ramsbottom Road.
Ms Brookes donated £110 each to five of the Mayor Cllr Richard Silvester’s charities: Horwich Visiting Service, Horwich Widows, the Horwich branch of Age UK, Horwich Wildlife Hospital in Vale Avenue and St Anthony’s Horwich Disabled Children’s Group.
The event featured a fashion display by Lee Lane outlet Ruby Rose, stalls by the Fine Yarns wool shop, Worthy’s Gym and Body Shop products sold by June Sharples.
“We only expected about 60 or 70 people,” said Ms Brookes. “But a lot more people came in on the door than we anticipated. We’re delighted they came and they have helped swell the coffers.”
