DANCE and song filled Bolton's Victoria Hall last night as Indian communities from across the north of England gathered to celebrate the country's national day.
Entertainers from as far away as Leeds performed traditional music and dances to mark Indian Republic Day.
There were speeches from The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Walter Hall, Bolton MPs David Crausby and Brian Iddon and the Consul General of India Narayan Prakash Sharma.
The day marks the date in 1950 when the country's first constitution came into effect. Until 1947, India was part of the British Empire.
The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Walter Hall, said: "This event is about celebrating the history and heritage of the Indian community, not just in Bolton but across the whole of the north of England. I have been looking forward to this for some time and I'm absolutely honoured to be a part of it."
