Name Kevin Hughes.

Born Bury in 1961.

Company Yorkshire Bank.

Position Managing partner.

Location Bolton and Blackburn Financial Services Centres.

Where did you start?

Commenced with NatWest in 1979 but was recruited by Yorkshire Bank in 2001.

What got you interested?

The opportunity to earn money and gain real experience in a more immediate way rather than attending university.

What is the secret to your success?

Be respectful of everyone you meet in business - you never know!

It has always been a relationship business - people buy people - and there are numerous examples of where this understanding has paid dividends. It is still very much a business where trust and keeping good faith with your clients and associates is highly valued.

Best decision you ever made?

I spent three years working abroad in Greece in the early 1990s. Apart from the obvious attractions, it proved to be a really good development opportunity on every level. I learned a lot about myself and what I valued and from a career perspective it allowed me to acquire numerous skills in a relatively short period of time by fast-tracking my progression.

Biggest influence?

No single person in particular springs to mind. I have been fortunate to work for a number of good people in the past 27 years of banking and have taken the best bits from each of them. I have also worked for a few who weren't as good - and learned not to copy their behaviour.

Favourite music?

I have to admit to be looking forward to the Genesis concert later this year. I've followed them for more years than I care to remember.

Favourite film?

Clint Eastwood in Spaghetti Westerns - brilliant, even though badly dubbed.

Favourite book?

John Grisham books are always a good read. They also translate into films really well.

Favourite pastime?

Golf - I'm a keen 12 handicap golfer. I also used to play rugby union but after weekly trips to Bolton Hospital, I gave this up some time ago.
