A 10-YEAR-OLD used a lighter to set a pile of clothes on fire in his bedroom.
The boy's mother used water to stop the fire getting out of hand at the family home in Montserrat Road, Johnson Fold, after being alerted by a smoke detector on Sunday night.
She then ushered her son and four daughters out of the house before firefighters from Bolton Central Fire Station arrived to tackle the blaze, which was still smouldering.
Watch Manager, Ian Duckworth, said: "We would urge parents not to leave lighters or matches lying around.
"This fire shows the importance of having a smoke detector."
