THE Bolton holidaymaker who plunged to his death from the 14th floor of a Mexican hotel had dreams of marrying his girlfriend in Jamaica.

Adrian Fletcher's plans were revealed by his devastated mother, Delores, as she spoke to The Bolton News about her son.

Mr Fletcher, aged 34, plunged from the 14th floor of the Riu Cancun hotel in Cancun, Mexico, at lunchtime on Thursday, following a row with his girlfriend, Lisa Miller, aged 30.

The couple had flown to the five-star resort with a party of other people, all from Little Lever, to see their friends, John Rourke and Lisa Cooksey, marry in a ceremony that had been due to take place this Friday.

Mr Fletcher - known to friends as "Flecky" - had told his mother just two weeks ago: "I want to take Lisa to Jamaica and marry her".

He then turned to his girlfriend of nine-years and said: "I want to marry you".

The revelation followed the last family gathering at the Little Lever home of Mrs Fletcher, aged 63, and her husband, Howard, also aged 63, who are originally from Jamaica.

Mrs Fletcher, a nurse at the Royal Bolton Hospital said she had lost "the very best son in the world".

She added: "Adrian's brother Michael broke the news to us. He walked into the house, collapsed on the floor and said Adrian's dead'. I felt empty and drained, as though nothing was left inside me.

"Before Adrian left, I told him take care' and he said I'll see you'. Adrian was so loving, he would do anything to help people.

"Even on his first day at school, while every other child cried, Adrian was smiling. And when he started work and was earning nothing, he bought me flowers. We were very close and he had a very special bond with his father. We are devastated."

The news filtered through to family and friends in Bolton following a call from a member of the Cancun wedding party.

It was confirmed to the family by the Home Office at 2am on Friday. They are now in talks with officials to get the go-ahead for two of Mr Fletcher's friends, who are with the wedding party, to identify his body on their behalf.

Flowers and tributes now line the approach to Mr Fletcher's home, in Grosvenor Street, Little Lever.

Hundreds of balloons were launched in his memory, from the Hardy Hall pub, in Church Street, Little Lever, on Sunday.

Staff at the Riu Cancun hotel said Mr Fletcher and Miss Miller were seen having a "very forceful argument" before both fell from the balcony of their room and on to the balcony below.

Witnesses said the row continued and Mr Fletcher suddenly swallow dived from the balcony.

Miss Miller, from Aspull, in Wigan, was questioned by police in Mexico as a witness, but was released after members of the wedding party paid her £500 bail.

She was due to be a bridesmaid at the wedding, but she is now planning to return home before the weekend.

Her brother flew to Mexico yesterday to accompany her back to the UK.

Police are still investigating Mr Fletcher's death and it is not known when his body will be flown back to the UK.
