A NEW Year's Eve reveller broke into a car after going on a drink and drugs binge.

Stephen Francis Robinson, aged 35, of Marld Crescent, Doffcocker, smashed the window of a Fiat Punto, parked on Rishton Lane, Great Lever and stole gloves, a tool box and CD player while on a night out with friends.

He was caught when forensic experts matched him to DNA evidence found in the car.

Bolton magistrates heard that Robinson had been given a three month prison sentence, suspended for two years for a burglary offence in June last year.

Peter Leather, defending, said that, until breaking into the car, Robinson - a married father of four - had complied fully with his previous sentence, completing 150 hours unpaid community work and paying off all costs before "slipping up".

"Unfortunately, he had a bit too much to drink and was offered drugs," said Mr Leather.

"To be frank he doesn't remember much about the offence at all."

Robinson pleaded guilty to theft, but magistrates decided not to activate the suspended sentence.

He was given an extra 80 hours unpaid community work and told pay £302 in compensation and £43 costs.
