DRIVERS are being warned to take care and plan their journeys following forecasts of sub zero temperatures and snow tonight and tomorrow.
In Bolton, 13 gritters are on stand-by to spread salt on to motorways and trunk roads around the town.
The region is likely to miss heavy snow falls predicted for southern and eastern parts of the country, but the Highways Agency said wintery weather could still make roads treacherous for drivers.
