MOVES to secure peace in Kashmir have been backed by Bolton South-east MP, Dr Brian Iddon.
Dr Iddon marked Kashmir Solidarity Day, on Monday, which remembers peope who have died during conflicts in the region, by co-sponsoring an early day motion in Parliament.
India claims the whole of Kashmir but Pakistan wants to implement UN resolutions calling for its people to decide which country they want to be part of.
Dr Iddon said: "Kashmir Solidarity Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the continuing situation in the Kashmir region and the plight of the Kashmiri people.
"I am pleased that the Indian and Pakistani Governments are trying to reach a resolution but if this peace is to be sustainable then the Kashmiri people need to be represented at these talks."
