CELEBRITY scrapper Terry Walker and his team from Metro Salvage went head-to-head with rival firm A&C Auto Salvages in an It's a Knockout-style competition.

The teams braved today's rain to take part in a series of comedy challenges based on the hit comedy game show, with the action being captured for the BBC series Scrappers, which charts the ups and downs of life at Metro Salvage in Waterloo Street.

Darcy Lever Cricket Club in Hacken Lane was transformed into an obstacle course featuring giant inflatables, which the teams had to negotiate to win the points in a bid to be crowned It's a Knockout Scrappers champion.

First challenge was the wet sponge throwing competition, with each team having to catch the sponge before throwing it over an inflatable castle — a challenge which proved much harder than first thought — but skill, technique and lot of laughs ensured that the celebrity Scrappers were victorious.

But the whistle had to be blown after the game descended in a water fight as team members ended up throwing sponges at each other.

Cue falling giants in the second game, in which team members dressed up in ogre costumes and trying to walk across moving mats as quickly as possible from one side to another.

Team leader and Metro Salvage owner Terry Walker said: "I remember watching It's a Knockout when I was younger — and of course I wanted to take part in it.

"It's great team building and it is quite competitive and really good for everyone."

He added: "We didn't really train — other than a few sit ups."

Craig Nuttall, of the blue team, representing A&C Auto Salvages, said: "We were all really excited to have been invited to take part — and it is great to bring companies in the same business together like this.

"It's been a really good day."

To find out who wins, who breaks the rules and who causes the most laughs, readers will have to watch the second series of Scrappers when the It's as Knockout-style special is aired in the summer.
