KEVIN Nolan has spoken for the first time of his frustration at being overlooked by England.

The Wanderers skipper was disappointed not to make the squad for the midweek friendly against Spain after Steve McClaren identified him as one of the players on the fringe of an international call.

But he says the setback has made him more determined to prove he should be part of the England set-up.

Nolan, who is due to make his 200th Premiership appearance for the Whites against Fulham tomorrow, believes his performances in a Bolton shirt show that he has plenty to offer the national side.

And he refuses to give up on his ambition to add senior caps to those he won at Youth and Under-21 levels.

"I have started to get a bit frustrated now at being overlooked time and time again," he said.

"But I have just got to keep going and keep doing the business for Bolton.

"As long as I keep doing that then perhaps I might get a call."

Nolan watched with a tinge of envy as Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton made his debut in the Old Trafford friendly. Now he aims to emulate his fellow Liverpudlian.

"Joey has done really well this season and congratulations to him on winning his first cap," Nolan told ITV"s Soccer Night. "I am delighted for him.

"But I want to be there and train with the squad. They can see what I am about and then it is up to them."

Nolan added: "The most disappointing thing about the match against Spain is we didn't have many chances.

"But I am sure with the players we can call on, we can turn it around in the qualifiers."
