RESIDENTS who were promised broadband internet connection before Christmas should be up to speed in the next few weeks.

Homeowners on The Meadows estate, near the Middlebrook Retail Park, have been calling on BT to undertake the necessary work for months.

When the estate was built fibre optic links were installed. But the growth of broadband, which is not compatible with them, means the 250 homes on the estate have to use dial-up connections to access the internet.

Engineers have been on site and the work has now been completed, after a number of set backs.

A BT spokesman said: "We are now in the throes of the final stage in this process and therefore customers will be able to order broadband very soon."
