THE Mayor of Bolton received a petition signed by more than 400 people, calling for action to be taken on a Smithills road.
Residents are asking for weight restrictions to be put in place on what is known as the "cigarette tunnel" in Walker Fold Road, near to Colliers Row Road.
There are also calls for traffic calming measures to be brought in in an area that is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
Janet Hodgkinson of Old Colliers Row Road handed the petition in at the meeting of Bolton's full council.
She and other residents have received backing from Smithills councillors, including Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Roger Hayes.
He said: "The councillors have helped draft the petition but we were led by the residents on this one.
"This is a big local issue, there are a lot of people who use the routes and it is very dangerous at the moment."
