THREE Horwich RMI Harrier ladies ran superbly to help the club take the team title in the 35 to 44 category of the British Masters Cross Country Championships, at Berry Hill, Mansfield.

Angela Allen led the way finishing in a terrific sixth place over-the six kilometre course.

Lisa Heyes continued her recent good form and ran superbly well to finish 12th, and Janet Rashleigh ran brilliantly to finish 14th. She also claimed individual victory in the over-45 age category.

Janet finished 11 seconds ahead of the second placed over-45 Monica Williamson of Leamington (24.17).

The tight packing of the Horwich Ladies gave them a winning margin of over 15 minutes ahead of the second team Mansfield Harriers.

The Horwich ladies are now looking forward to the British Masters Road Relays in May.

Brendan Bolland had a great run in last Saturday's Coniston 14 Mile Road Race, finishing eighth in a time of 1.20.34. Glyn Kay was Horwich's second finisher in 39th place (1.28.30), with Mark Lysycia next in 131st (1.37.20).

Gaynor Higson was Horwich's only lady competitor, finishing in 284th place (1.45.12). Keith Makin 576th (1.55.44) and Malcolm Henderson 1,039th (2.17.24) were the club's other runners.

Easter Saturday sees the staging of the annual Rivington Pike Fell Race, which starts at 3pm on Lever Park Avenue, with registration starting at 12.30pm at the Crown Hotel, Chorley New Road, Horwich.This year's race also includes a team challenge for companies, voluntary groups, sports teams etc.

There are also junior races (U-12, U-14 and U-16) which start at 1pm, with registration behind Rivington and Blackrod High School from 12 noon. For details on the races contact Ian Smith on 01204 691951.
