A PERVERT from Kashmir has been jailed for a sex attack on a 16-year-old girl in a lift in Bolton.

Mohammad Yasin, aged 37, pleaded guilty to indecent assault when he appeared at Bolton Magistrates Court.

Glenn Anderton, prosecuting, told the court that Yasin, who is in the country visiting family, was in a glass lift at The Market Place, in Knowsley Street, on Saturday morning. He said there were a number of people in the lift who got out when it reached the ground floor, leaving Yasin and the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Mr Anderton said: "The defendant was the last to leave the lift and as he did, he placed his hand between the girl's legs."

The girl, who was "extremely shocked and distressed", remained in the lift as Yasin left.

He then tried to get back in the lift on two more occasions until the girl alerted security.

The court heard that Yasin, who was staying in Netherfield Road, Great Lever, at the time and who does not speak English, was arrested. During police interview he initially denied the assault, saying he was pushed into the girl. He later claimed that he was dizzy and he fell into her.

He admitted indecent assault after seeing CCTV footage of the incident.

Kamran Akram, defending, said Yasin was from a rural part of Kashmir, between India, Pakistan and China, and earned £2 a week. Mr Akram said it was a stupid thing to do and that he thought he was being "boyish."

Jailing Yasin for 28 days, chairman of the bench Christine McGawley said: "This is totally unacceptable behaviour."

Yasin will be deported on his release from prison and will be placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for seven years.
