A HEATON teenager took on some of the country's best fencers and finished in runner-up spot.
Cormac Sale took part in the British Youth Championships at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield on May 4,
The competition saw the top four fencers from every region in Britain in action with more than 1,000 fencers in total through the different ages and disciplines.
Proud mum Rhonda Cormack said: "Cormac fenced all the way through to the finals for the U12 boys sabre.
"He was awarded with the silver medal after losing out 8-10.
"It was a truly fantastic achievement."
Cormac joined the Marshall fencing club in January.
The club is run by Stuart Marshall, a GB fencer and GB team leader along with other coaches Mike Swiffin and Dave Taylor.
Since last September Cormac attends Bridgewater School where they totally support him with time to attend internationals and training camps.
