Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill praised the new and the old as his side chalked up only their second victory on the road.

England Under-21 Gabriel Agbonlahor rounded off a special week by grabbing the winner against Rovers at Ewood Park.

Patrick Berger had earlier marked his return to the team by getting the equaliser after Benni McCarthy had opened the scoring from the penalty spot for the home side.

Agbonlahor signed a new four-year deal this week O'Neill is predicting a bright future for the player.

"The goal he got against Everton last Monday gave him a big boost, " he said.

"The next day he signed a contract - and he deserved it."

O'Neill added: "Berger rolled back the years with that performance."
