TRIBUTES have been paid to a mother of three who was killed when a motorbike ploughed into her and two of her children.

Flowers and messages have been left at the spot where Lyndsay Oldham died on Good Friday.

At the time of the accident, she had been walking home from a family lunch at a pub to celebrate her husband's 57th birthday.

The messages tell of their sadness at her death and their sorrow for the family she leaves behind, which includes her children David, aged 17, and Emma Jane, aged 14, who were injured in the accident.

Today, a councillor has vowed to investigate calls by families living near Church Street, Ainsworth, for a change of road layout.

Cllr Barry Briggs, who represents the Radcliffe North ward, said he will look into people's claims that the road needs a speed camera and a safer way of turning into side roads.

He said: "I certainly want to investigate anything that helps because this is clearly a tragedy.

"I understand people's concerns and I will be taking these issues up."

Residents have been using The Bolton News website to call for a change in the road.

They are asking for cameras or speed humps to be installed on the road and some people want to see better turning points for making a right turn.

Mrs Oldham, a council IT worker, had been celebrating her husband George's birthday in a local pub and was walking home with her children when the motorbike hit them.

The Yamaha R1 motorcycle, ridden by a 40-year-old man, had been in collision with a VW Golf car.

The rider was thrown from the motorbike, which careered on to the pavement, hitting Mrs Oldham and the two children.

The accident happened at the junction of Church Street and Sumner Avenue, only yards from Mrs Oldham's home.

She suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her teenage children suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital for treatment, but were discharged on Saturday.

The motorcyclist suffered a broken leg and was also taken to the Royal Bolton, where he remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the car was left shaken, but uninjured.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the road policing unit on 0161 856 3572.
