ALEX Matvienko is predicting another war as he prepares to go head-to-head with Ryan Ashtworth.

The Great Lever middleweight will be hoping to continue his 100 per cent record in his seventh professional fight at Altrincham. And the 28-year-old, dubbed the One Man Riot' following a series of bruising encounters, is expecting another battle.

Matvienko returns to action following a hard-fought points-victory against Hartlepool's Shaun Farmer in February - a fight many predicted the Bolton hardman would struggle in.

"A lot of people thought I would get beat," admitted Matvienko, ahead of his four-round clash with the 23-year-old Scarborough fighter. "It was a tough fight and a proper war - just like this one is going to be.

"Ashworth has boxed at the World Amateur Championships and won national titles, and it's going to be another hard night.

"He's a real come-forward boxer, so it looks like we'll be meeting in the middle of the ring because I'll be doing the same."

Matvienko has been helping Jamie Moore prepare for his international contest with Sebastian Lujan on the same night. The duo both train at Oliver's Gym in Salford and Matvienko believes he has benefited with working alongside the more experienced Walkden ace.

"The training is going pretty well," he added. "I'm learning more with every fight and I'm improving all the time.

"I've been doing a lot of sparring with Jamie and it has really been helping me. In the past Jamie has brought other fighters in when he's been training for a big fight, but this time he hasn't bothered. That just shows how much I've come on."
