WHEELS have been set in motion for an anti-racism gig in Bolton.

Bands from across the town have been invited to play at he as-yet-unnamed event, which will take place on Thursday April 26 and Friday April 27.

Organisers are also awaiting confirmation of an all-ages gig at Claremont House, on St george's Road, on Wednesday April 25.

Don McColl, one of the chief organisers of the event, said: "We'll ask some local acoustic artists, but if you know someone, especially someone that does something a little different, ask them if they'll play and send me their contact details."

The event was suggested after news appeared that the BNP are to field a candidate for local election in the Tongue with the Haulgh ward.

"We consider it important for people throughout Bolton, not just this particular ward, to be aware of this situation and The BNP's activity in Bolton," Don said.

"We want to make this event diverse. We want a good cross section of musical styles and cultural backgrounds."
