A HORWICH cricket club claims to have thrown its hat in the ring to host the next World Cup after recent events at FIFA.
Sepp Blatter resigned from his post as FIFA president yesterday following the launch of an investigation into corruption within the organisation by US officials.
The developments have thrown the future of the 2018 tournament in Russia in doubt.
On its Twitter account, Horwich RMI Cricket Club said: "Club statement — we have applied to host the 2018 Football World Cup."
FIFA did not respond to The Bolton News' request for a comment.
