IT will be a family affair this weekend as two young siblings take over the airwaves at Bolton FM.

Sofia Cardillo, aged 10, and her sister Lucia, aged eight, follow in the footsteps of Bolton DJs Sara Cox and Vernon Kay as they turn presenters on the town's community station for its first Family Show programme.

The girls will take their lead in the studio from presenter Jon Stroud and their producer — and mum — Caroline Cardillo.

Speaking about the show, Sofia said: "We've grown up listening to radio and mum always has it on in the kitchen and when she's driving. Not many of our friends listen to it, so I want to give them a good reason to.

"I'm so excited to be doing the show and can't wait to let listeners hear what's coming up in the weeks ahead."

The girls first approached the station with the idea six months ago, after learning that none of the station's shows were geared specifically towards families.

The talented pair have been involved in the production of the show from the start, including a programme schedule, timings, features and even their own jingles.

Lucia said "This show isn't just for mums and dads, it's for everyone who enjoys listening to the radio, with lots of cool kids stuff too."

Sofia and Lucia are asking listeners to tune in and send their family dedications and song requests by text or email.

Station Manager, Kevan Williams says, "The main aim of the show is to bring 'fun' and 'family' back to Sundays.

"The idea of a family show is brilliant and one I wish I'd thought of myself. The girls come in to the studio regularly and sit in on shows. They were born for radio and we wish them the best of luck with their new show."
