CLONE Roses singer Gavin Scott has said he would have doubts about a Stone Roses reunion - despite the fact that they are one of his favourite bands.

"I think it's better left as it is - there's more euphoria," he says.

"But then on the other hand, it could be great because there's so many people who love them and would love to see them play.

"It'd be great in one way, and it's be great for us because it would raise our profile, but I'd hate to see them ruin it."

The singer, who is from St Helens, has been performing as Ian Brown in the tribute act for over eight years, since his brother Tony (who takes guitar duty as John Squire) heard him singing over a Roses track and floated the idea.

Now they perform the full gamut of Stone Roses hits, and are one of the most popular tribute acts in the country.

But he has been surprised by the success of a band which, he admits, started out "without a plan."

"I remember when we first started and we were playing local pubs and clubs it occurred to us that we were on to a good thing," he says.

"Then we got the gig that broke through for us supporting the Happy Mondays at Brixton Academy.

"It was an amazing feeling."

At that gig they met former Stone Roses bassist Mani, and were bowled over by his support for what they were doing.

Gavin says: "Mani was DJing and he loved it, he said that we were keeping the myth alive."

For Bolton fans the myth continues tomorrow at the Soundhouse, where the band will be supported by Asbo and the Phonophobics.

Admission is £8 on the door.
