BOLTON is 'ready for steak off' after the fuselage of an aeroplane arrived in the heart of student land.

Onlookers were amazed on Wednesday night as the huge section of aircraft was delivered to a site in Deane Road opposite the University of Bolton’s Technical College.

The owners of The Steak House business are replacing the iconic red double decker Steak Out bus which has previously taken centre stage on the site with the new soaring structure.

The new business is set to be named “Steaks on a Plane” — a play on the popular Samuel L Jackson film, ‘Snakes on a Plane” and will serve steaks and other food ‘on board.’

A spokesman for The Steak Out firm said: “We are really excited about the project and we believe it will be a perfect way of putting Bolton on the map.

“We are working with local businesses on the project and want to bring something new and different to Bolton.”

The remarkable new venue is using a disused Boeing craft which is set to be converted into a restaurant and kitchen, with a seating area for diners.

It was brought from a base in The Cotswolds to Bolton on Wednesday night — with scores of passers by stopping to see what was going on.

Ibrahim Lockhart was driving along Deane Road at the time the plane was being delivered.
He said: “I had to pull over to check it out — I texted the Mrs and said I would be late home because it is not something you see every day.

“I think it is awesome — something really different in Bolton.”

Others were more sceptical about the new foody venture — 20-year-old student Anna Callaghan said: “I am not completely sold on the idea of eating on a plane, but I will give it a go when it opens.”

The Steak Out business has employed fellow Bolton firm E-Sparkle Solutions to carry out the main conversion of the plane.

Project manager Ridwan Asmal said: “This is going to be phenomenal and will be a fantastic landmark in Bolton — we are really excited to be involved.”

The ambitious project was given the green light by Bolton Council’s planning permission in October last year.
