SOON Bolton will be awash with new students, ready to hit the town and enjoy a good night.
But where should they venture? Here is our lowdown on 20 town centre venues where you can enjoy everything from free pool to a meal for £3.25 and bargain drinks galore.

Dragonfly, Nelson Square
Get down to Dragonfly on a Wednesday night for offers including £2 for a single spirit and £3 for a double. On Sunday nights, the pub hosts a smartphone quiz so grab some mates, put your brainy heads together and find out just how clever you are.
Yates’s, Bradshawgate
Look out for Yates’s staff on campus next Thursday, giving out vouchers for cheaper drinks. Every day, the pub has a selected £3.25 meal deal for a full-size portion, such as BBQ melt or fish and chips. Who said student life has to be all Pot Noodles and beans on toast?
Harvey’s Cafe Bar, Mawdsley Street
Harvey’s is a more upmarket watering hole where people go for after work drinks or a tasty pub meal. On Fizzy Friday, you can get a bottle of Prosecco for £14.99. Staff said there are plans to introduce events for students with offers such as cheaper cocktails.
Spinning Mule, Nelson Square
Staff from the JD Wetherspoon pub will be handing out voucher booklets on the university campus next week with drinks offers. There will be a quiz night on Monday, September 28, with 20% off food.
Alma Inn, Bradshawgate
If you like your music loud, this is the place to go. The Alma is always popular with students who are into rock, metal and punk music.
McCauleys, Bradshawgate
Wednesday night is student night with selected shots from £1.50 and drinks deals on bottles such as three VS or Carlsberg for £5.
Blind Tiger, Nelson Square
The fun kicks off tomorrow night at this popular live music venue with the official freshers’ welcome. There will live music by Rachel Green and Naked Stereo plus drinking games throughout the night. Every Wednesday is the Rawkus Club night, an official student night dedicated to pop, punk, metal and alternative music. Drinks offers before 11pm, including 2 for 1 cocktails.
The Bar, Nelson Square

Downtown, Bradshawgate
The live music venue hosted its freshers’ welcome party last night but there are more events in the pipeline with offers including £1.50 for a bottle of Carslberg and shots for £1.
Corner Club, Bradshawgate
A safe haven for veteran party animals. If you’re a slightly older student who did your partying first time around in the 90s and noughties, then this is the place for you. Saturday, September 26, will play host to Era 4 - disco, vintage house classics and everything in between.
Courtneys, Bradshawgate
Calling itself ‘Bolton's hottest party spot’, Courtneys promises fantastic drink offers and DJs playing the freshest music. Open til late.
Swan and Barristers, Bradshawgate
No student offers as such but you can get a pint for less than £2 or a VK bottle for £2. There are plenty of drinks offers during the day, for when you’re lecture-free, and this is also the place to go if you’re a fan of ales.
Blue Boar, Deansgate
This pub has free wi-fi so you can check those all-important e mails while you slurp a pint. It also plays host to bands and will welcome the Evil Stepsisters, performing covers from all styles of music, tomorrow night.
Old Three Crowns, Deansgate
Spirits your thing? From Smirnoff vodka to Morgan Spice rum, call into this boozer where branded spirits will set you back £2 for a single or double up for another quid. There’s free pool on a Tuesday and free jukebox on a Wednesday.
Elephant and Castle, Deansgate
No dedicated student offers at the moment but enough deals to keep your thirst quenched until they happen including 2 for 1 cocktails and pitchers, all day, every day. Can I get a woo woo?
Hogarths, Churchgate
Hogarths is half lavish Victorian-style gin house and half sports bar. With more types of gin than you ever knew existed and 17 screens (including one of the North West’s biggest), this is the perfect place for gin and sports fans alike.
Flying Flute, Bradshawgate
No student nights but pop into the Flying Flute to take advantage of offers such as two Jagerbombs for £5.
Karaoke Bar, Bradshawgate
Weekends are all about singing, laughter and fun at this bar. So flex your vocal chords and pick a tune, past or present, to belt out.
Shots Bar and Grill, Bradshawgate
