UNDERDOGS Tempest United could not spring an upset in the Hospital Cup final as holders Ramsbottom United ran out 5-1 winners to lift the trophy for a second successive season.
The village side, based in Chew Moor, Lostock, had no answer to the semi-professional North West Counties League Division One outfit at Bolton Wanderers' Reebok Stadium on Friday night.
It was Tempest's third appearance in the final of the competition - but there was to be no hat-trick of successes for the West Lancashire League amateurs as they were steamrolled by Ramsbottom.
Tempest were looking to repeat their giant-killing heroics of 1998 and 2000, but the Rams prolific striker, Ryan Moore, proved the difference between the two sides as he grabbed a personal treble, though Steve Ford's team battled bravely to the end despite being reduced to 10 men after having a player sent off late on.
