BREIGHTMET United manager Paul Roberts kept his players behind for a full and frank discussion after Saturday’s 5-2 defeat at home to Leigh Athletic.

The Division One leaders were virtually out of sight after going into the break 3-0 up and added another two in the second half.

Breightmet kept fighting though and pulled two goals back in the final 10 minutes through Tommy Williams and Jason Brooks.

Roberts said he was “encouraged” by his players’ response and believes plenty of positives came out of the clear the air talks as they bid to arrest a slump of three straight defeats.

“We had a really good chat after the game,” he said.

“All the players stayed behind and we talked about what we need to do tactically to get back to winning ways, and I have to say that I was very encouraged by the conversation.

“It was all very positive as all the players agreed what we need to do to go forward and we are all singing from the same hymn sheet.

“The fact of the matter is that it is only individual errors that are costing us.

“It was actually quite an even game against Leigh and we were all scratching our heads at half time wondering how we managed to fall three goals behind.

“The reality is that there is not much between any of the teams in this league.

“We had the rub of the green when we were winning at the start of the season but things are just not going our way now.

“All we can do is get our heads down, cut out those errors and try again in the next game and I am sure things will turn around for us.”

Despite the heavy defeat Breightmet remain in sixth place in the table, just six points behind Leigh, and travel to mid-table Chapel Town on Saturday.
